Early American Glass: From the Colonies to the Civil War Ian Simmonds Chappaqua Library, 195 South Greeley Ave., Chappaqua, NY. Talk starts at 10am. |
The story of American glass is dominated by inventions that transformed a craft into an industry, with expensive handmade objects being steadily replaced by large quantities of inexpensive, mass produced goods suitable for the growing middle class.
I will trace this story from the mid-18th Century to the Civil War, illustrating the variety of products available in each period.
Following the talk, I will identify and appraise American glass of this period brought in by audience members.
My talk is being hosted by the New Castle Historical Society.
